I am posting this hoping someone has a suggestion for this problem. About a year ago my computer (2010 MacPro 6-core, 16 MB memory) started to crash when doing a video encode with Handbrake. There was no BSOD but the computer would reboot and a crash log was logged. This would happen at variable times in the encode. I did extensive hardware testing, including memory, and found no problems. I also looked at temperatures and never got above 60C. At that time I was running OSX 10.8. I recently upgraded to Mavericks, hoping that some flaky driver would get replaced, but no luck. Most telling for me is that this doesnt happen if I run Handbrake under safe mode. I also recently noticed that Toast Titanium also causes a system crash if it does a video encode. Since everything seems do work in safe mode, Im thinking this must be an errant third party driver or kext. How do I go about identifying which one it might be? How can I tell which kexts are Apple and which are third party? Any other suggestions?
