And I bought the update disc of Snow Leopard. Question is....if I ever have to reformat the harddrive, can I use the SL update disc as the restore disc....if not, where can I get the discs that came with my Macbook.

How old is your Mac? If it's sort of new I'd call Apple Care and have them send you out a new set.

They are sending me out another set.

The 10.6 retail DVD will install to a blank hard drive, but only includes the OS. You'll need the restore DVDs for iLife, etc.

I'm having sorta the same problem. Can't fix my GFs macbook because the install discs are gone. Is it really necessary to buy the full price retail DVD?

the disc for snow leopard costs 29 dollars at the apple store, you might find it cheaper on ebay but isn't it cheap enough ?
