If I type into terminal "who -r" it tells me I'm currently on run level 3, which i assume is multi-user mode. Is there a means of switching or customizing run levels? How is OS 10.9 handling these? The only information I could find is from OS 10.4 which doesn't seem to apply to 10.9.

From the manpage for who:

Code:
-r    Print the current runlevel.  This is meaningless on Mac OS X.
