OSX Screen sharing encryption

Do I really need to have full encryption for OSX screen sharing or is the 'encrypt usernames and passwords' OK if just between macs on a internal home network?

They are networked by Cat6 1GB Ethernet connections.

If you're only connecting locally on your wired network, then security of the connection isn't likely to be very risky.
