[OSX] Sometimes the menu bar status icons are gone

Hey all.

Normally my menu bar has status icons like battery, time, VPN status, but after Apple support told me to take out the battery and hold the power button for 5 seconds for another problem, occasionally when I boot up the icons are gone and the screen looks like this:



I'm on a Macbook Pro late 08 with OSX 10.5.6.

Nevermind, restored disk permissions and the problem is gone. (at least for now)
