Just updated to El Capitan 10.11.6 ….. and then noticed that the Mac (iMac in my case) startup chime no longer sounds off. Is this supposed to be the case? Everything else works right and the Mac starts up with no problem.

I do miss the sound….not sure if it was stealth-removed by Apple?

Make sure you have not turned the sound off. If the sound is muted, you won't hear the startup chime. Check your f10 to f12 keys.

Thanks all. I did several suggestions, and I think the zap NVRAM (was it called PRAM in the old days?) upon startup did it.
