I am running OSX 10.5.1 and recently I have developed a problem where my computer will not logout, restart or shutdown. What should I do to diagnose or fix this problem?

You could try opening Activity Monitor from your Utilities folder and start killing processes. One of them is probably stopping your shutdown.

The other option is to force-shutdown by holding down the power key until it shuts down. It might be an idea, if you do this, to then Safe Boot by holding the Shift key while starting up until you see the gear wheel. When the log-in screen appears, restart again.
