OTA 4.3, so who's got it?

Seriously with all the blinking servers Google must own how can they not push out the OTA to everyone like Apple do? :confused:

At least they have it available to download though which is good.

Yeah it stinks. Last time Jelly Bean took 2 weeks to hit my area.
 
Nothing here yet either for my Nexus 4. I am anxiously waiting to see if the wifi sleep issue is resolved as I have heard rumors that 4.3 fixes it.

do you mean with wifi randomly going out and coming back on? This caused and issue with my lights. I had it set to turn on when entering the wifi range, but in the middle of the night they would turn on. I guess that is what you mean?
 
Why not download the update instead of waiting for the OTA? Do you have to be rooted for that?

Could be the same issue. It manifests itself to me with streaming audio. If I am on wifi and listening to TuneIn radio, once the screen goes off, it only takes a few minutes for the stream to stop. This also happens with MLB At-Bat. From what I can gather online, this is a known issue with no fix that works for everyone.

it involves like a billion steps as far as i got reading about it online. i dont get why google does not just offer a "download and install" option. its redic

Well, I had no problem downloading a flash able zip file for my Nexus 7 via XDA. I know have a rooted, stock image of 4.3. Easy as downloading the file and then flashing it like any ROM. Easy.

One main thing noticed, Google has gone back to directing the main user to 0/legacy/ directory. So if you use Titanium Backup, you will have to redirect it to this new folder.

So far no issues to report with 4.3.

you lost me at 0/

thats one thing i dont like about android ... all this command line and file system stuff. i just want to click on a file and it does all its magic by itself ^^

Whilst Apple may make them available, how many people always complain that the servers are too busy or take hours to download ?

Besides surely the biggest Internet search engine company in the world can handle the traffic ??

Just another reason why I'll be on an iPhone soon, I hope. After a few months on Android, this is yet another reason why I'm not liking it.
 
Guys is it possible we won't see 4.3 OTA until after the release of the Nexus 7 2 on July 30th? :confused:

You're right, that's what they say.

However my first hand experience with mine on 4.2.2 is simply stellar. It's a vast improvement over 4.1.x and frankly the best touch responsiveness I've experienced including that of my iPad 4. I draw that comparison only as an example. I cannot imagine any better response than what I'm currently experiencing.

I enjoy using both Android & iOS concurrently, it's an interesting contrast in approaches.

Google doesn't roll new release for their products (being Android or web) for all the users at the same time. They roll out them gradually and it make sense

The whole point is they are the biggest internet company in the world, overloading their own servers should not be a problem.....

It likewise isn't good for the people at the back of the queue.... Surely one of the major 'selling points' of a nexus device is the immediate availability of OS updates.
 
If you can't be assed to wait for the OTA:

  • Download the correct 4.3 image for your device here
  • Extract the .tgz file and look for the .zip
  • Put the .zip on your device
  • Flash it from recovery like any other ROM
  • Enjoy!

I've used this routine also and I find it quite simple & reliable.

Why others claim Android is "so complicated" may be more about some impatience on their part, or desire for instant gratification, as opposed to being willing to do a bit of learning about the platform they're working with.

I think the problem with Android is that there's a lot of ways to do everything and it's hard to find them all in one place. xda-developers is main home of the Android community and look how disorganised it is. Whenever I move to a new phone I have to spend a good week getting to grips with the specific information about that phone, and this is coming from someone who's been with Android since the G1.

There are sites like RootzWiki which attempt to remedy this problem but in practice they're not often updated and important information is either outdated or missing.

On the other hand, all iPhones basically work the same so there's lot less to learn.

This hasn't turned me off Android because I'm a techie who enjoys learning all this stuff and having the chance to experiment with my own devices anyway, but I do understand how noobies can find it overwhelming.
