I was told that some older lenses are really great, and with an adapter. They could be mounted them on my Canon T1i (500D)

I am not worried about AF.

What I want is a low mm lens, and want to shoot around 35mm equivalent to 20mm to 30mm range.

    Anybody have any ideas ?

    lots of options

I've been resurrecting old Olympus Zuiko lenses on my Canons, particularly the 5D because of its sensor size. You can get Olympus OM 24mm and OM 28mm lenses for $50-$200 and adapters for about $25. The 24mm is a really good lens.
The OM 21mm and 18mm are highly revered and priced much higher usually.

You might want to check the Fred Miranda forum for alternative lenses.
There are many users of fine lenses other than Olympus and you'll see some great photography there.
