I'm keeping texts on computer for personal viewing purpose (as records), not to save storage on my phone. If something happens to my phone, I risk losing them. So I export them to my computer every once in awhile

OK. I got it. It is a secure way to save your text message. :)

Obviously, system runs smoothly and it need many physical storage, so "other" storage may be included.

Straight from Apple website:

Your iOS device automatically deletes cached files when it needs more space. You don't need to delete them yourself.

But I think the "other" storage won't be deleted automatically, it will increase as the time goes by.

I do something extremely OCD and its not advised for people with a ton of stuff on their phones cause it'll take a long time:

Save/backup the phone. Reinstall the iOS and setup as new phone. DO NOT BACK UP. Then reinstall and setup to the last backup. Voila, the OTHER in the phone is now cleared/way less.

You said do not back up? What if data lost? Because only reinstall and setup to last backup may result in some data lost.

No, you backup before doing any of this. After you finish setting up as a new phone and reinstall again, it'll give you the prompt to backup; dont because backing up then will only backup the empty phone. I guess you can and just select the previous save/backup but whats the point?

After setting up as new phone and reinstalling again, you select the set up to restoring what you saved before doing this so no data loss.
