"Other" storage doesn't tally with OmniSweeper - help!

Hi guys,

My Macbook Air shows over 30gb of "other" storage. I know there are often questions about this, but I installed OmniSweeper to try and track it down and it doesn't even seem to show on there...

So here it is in the "About my Mac" thingy...

But here is what I see in OmniSweeper:

Anyone any ideas what this actually is...? I'm stumped. I'm easily stumped, but that's neither here nor there 😆

Omni does not show a lot of system or hidden files.

Try running this command in Terminal to show all the base folders and their size then tell us what you find.

sudo du -d 1 -x -c -g /

You did it correctly, but you cut off some of the output up at the at the top. Scroll up and copy all the text output and post it here.

It should look like this at the top.

That output shows how many GB each folder is using. For example, you can see your /Users folder is using 22GB.

Ah ok sorry

I'm not seeing anything there that looks off or wrong.

Let me ask you this... aside from that Other business showing there, does about 60GB space used of the total 120GB sound about right to you?

Reason I ask is sometime that storage output graphic is wrong. It show the right total, but the breakdown is wrong. That can be caused by the Spotlight index being corrupted.

sudo mdutil -E /

Run this command in Terminal to reindex Spotlight and see if that helps. Give it a half hour or so to complete.

Apart from apps, all my docs are stored in iCloud and i don't have photos synced, so I am not sure what all that stuff could be at all..!
