I have a 16GB iPad 2 running 5.0.1, jailbroken. I've noticed that the "other" storage has amassed to over 3GB, which is pretty annoying because that's over 20% of storage space I can't use. Is there a way to get rid of this "other" storage? I have looked online and it was suggested I clear Safari's cache among other things. I have done that and it did clear up some space, but not enough to no longer be an issue.

I have also come across the solution of restoring my iPad; will restoring it from a backup resolve the issue? Obviously I can't do a clean restore because I'd be put on the latest iOS and would lose my jailbreak.

If anyone can tell me if a restore from backup would work or (hopefully) provide other solutions, I'm all ears! Thanks.

the ipad doesn't recognize jailbroken tweaks or apps that you have installed so it would fall under the other category. have you tried using icleaner in cydia? it will clean up a lot of caches, remove languages, retina/non retina/ 4inch images, keyboards, and voice control languages that you have no use for. maybe that should free some space up. i hope this helps

I'll give iCleaner a try, thanks for the suggestion. I don't have many tweaks installed on my iPad so I can't imagine the ones I do have installed taking up 3.2GB or space.

I used iCleaner last night and it freed up quite a bit of space. "Other" storage has been reduced to about 1GB and it reduced the amount of App storage as well. Would definitely recommend iCleaner to anyone trying to free up some space on their jailbroken iDevice.

Other is app data, unrecognized as apps software, contacts, calendar info, notes, emails, cache files

So if you want to get rid of other you basically have to remove everything that isn't an Apple installed or at least sold app, email accounts, etc

'other' files were cache files, cookies, temp files, iMessages when using you iPad. you can clear them by PhoneClean
