Protection of a $1,000 investment.
Some people want to make their iPhone look snazzy(ier) with a case, some people want to flat-out protect it from the elements and/or human nature. Some people want scratch protection, some people want drop protection, some want both.
Personally, I think many cases either linked or pictured in this forum look stupid or comical, and wonder why anyone would buy those. It's up to the individual.
I dropped my iphone 6 for the first time a few days ago onto my concrete driveway. It has the otterbox defender case. I wouldn't trade my case for anything else even with all it's imperfections.
After my iPhone 5 bent in an otterbox defender (and I have no idea how) I will never use them anymore. I was a real believer in them until then. They don't last much more than 6 months before they start falling apart either. The rubber gets loose and sometimes rips. They used to replace them with no questions asked but it became harder to get replacements. I still have defenders on my iPads and they've been great, just a little rubber sagging issues after 2 years of moderate use. The iPad case is nice that it has a shell that snaps over the front when you're not using it. It also doubles as a stand if using on a table.
it's the protection that counts...you could just bend your phone if you want..or shatter you glass....looking pretty doesn't exist in my book...
protection is beyond what one person could comprehend.
