Should i start installing all my app's or should i start with a clean install of the OSX?

Take your pick.
If it's your first Mac, you might as well just do a clean install just to witness the OS X install process... unless you think that's too nerdy of a thing to do.
Clean installs are always nice to do, but it IS a brand new machine.
I just got my first one, but I waited about a week to do a fresh install.

my 'OCD' tendencies

- Plug in the power straight away and calibrate the battery.

- install apps
- defragment with iDefrag (since big bits of data have been removed and added).

you dont really have to do these. you really dont have to do anything at all and OS X will purr like a kitty. i would recommend calibrating your battery though.

You should not, under any circumstance defragment an Apple OS X drive or partition, even Apple tells you that.

?? defragmenting is fine if you are moving huge data blocks around like videos. ive used iDefrag and turns out it made my Mac boot faster. but it probably isnt nesessary for a novice user.

OS X automatically defrags data but under a certain size (cant remember).
