My warranty expired about 2-3 weeks ago. Since then it has developed a problem where it loops on boot for several hours and then starts up normally. When it is on everything works but the phone app. It freezes the phone and forces a reboot where it gets stuck in the loop.

I have tried numerous methods of recovery. DFU Mode, recovery mode, iOS 10, iOS 11, iOS 11 beta etc. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to fix it.

FWIW I have had issues with the phone since I had it. I've brought it to apple once or twice for hissing and performance issues. Each time they just reset settings and sent me on my way.

iPhone 7 AT&T 256GB

My question is, does Apple make exceptions for out of warranty service?

They might make an exception being that you're barely out of your warranty phase. But I would not wait or hesitate to contact them now about the situation. Mainly because time is likely Of the essence in your situation.

Since you first reported the issue while the phone was in warranty and they never fixed it you should be covered. Just be sure tell them that the problem is essentially the same as the last few times and it was never fixed. Good luck.

Hold on, what did you do in the DFU mode? Did you clean reinstall the OS & still it happens?

If you phone shows no external physical damage you got a very good chance to get it replaced, even out of warranty. Go in humble and be prepared to show them the problem.

Make sure you back up before going!

You asked for it! Bend over!

Quick Update:

I went to the Apple store after work and they did replace my device even though it was out of warranty. My warranty expired 11 days earlier. Initially my request was denied but kindly asking my tech to elevate it to a manager and explaining that I was in the store a month earlier for a possible related problem helped as they were able to cross reference with their records.

Thanks Apple!

actually it's the remaining warranty of your phone or 90 days. whichever is longer. since his was out of warranty, he has 90 days warranty now

from the apple website:
A replacement part or Apple Product, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance with instructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining term of the Warranty or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you.

It shows warrant expired when I check coverage.

Just keep your receipt. The person above pulled that from the Apple website.

This is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Apple. Their service can’t be beat and they generally take care of their customers in situations like these. Glad it worked out for you!

Not.
He has a 3 month warranty on the replacement.
His original warranty has expired anyway.
You dont get a full 1 year warranty for every replacement you get. Either the remaining warranty from the original device or 90 days. Whatever is greater.

It was addressed 1 post after that.
