I currently use Gmail but since I can't have proper push email in the native mail application I was thinking of switching to Outlook.com.

Now as far I as I am aware you can set this up two ways on the iPhone. Either through the "Outlook.com" option or through the Exchange option as it supports EAS.

Now my question is, what would be the difference between the two setups? Or does the Outlook.com version just setup exchange?

Just choose Outlook.com setting when adding the account. Push works just fine. Besides I believe choosing exchange and putting in the m.outlook.com server results in the same setup.

Im sure both work...I am wondering what the difference is if any?

just add your outlook account as hotmail and it just works

It's been awhile but the only differences should be in the setup options (things like a domain for an enterprise Exchange account).

They both set up a connection to an Exchange server via an ActiveSync client. Are all ActiveSync features implemented in both? Unknown.
