Over the past few months I've noticed that my default email address changes to an ALIAS or SEND AS address of that default address. It's like this:

I have a LIVE.COM email address which is primary and has been for 10 years.
I have 2 SEND AS addresses (other live accounts that also forward to) the primary address.
I have an ALIAS of the primary address.

Through the MAIL settings, my default address is the LIVE.COM address and it displays correctly.

When I go into MAIL > ACCOUNTS it displays the alias or send as address. Also when sending a new email, it displays the alias or send as address.

I can only speak for LIVE.COM email accounts for now. I am wondering if any other users have something similar with Gmail or Yahoo. I know with an ICLOUD.COM email, you can turn off aliases through iOS settings.

This has happened when setting up a mail account using OUTLOOK.com on iOS. A few weeks ago I removed the mail account and set it up again using EXCHANGE this time. I haven't seen the issues mentioned above as of now.

Any thoughts at all about this? It's very sporadic. This is on a 7+ running 10.2.1.

I had the same issue using my hotmail.com account where the primary kept defaulting to one of my alias names. I couldn't fix it and did exactly what you did, deleted and setup as Exchange. This also fixed my syncing issues across devices.

With an Exchange setup working correctly, this must be a Microsoft thing. I am not sure how Apple designs iOS with the setup process though, and I based that on how each setup screen looks like the tech company's setup regarding colors and fonts. Gmail especially looks like it goes to a web interface from within the mail setup screen.

    Thanks for the reply!

I totally believe it's a Microsoft thing. Regarding Gmail, I switched back to Hotmail as my primary when Gmail removed push email support.

BTW, if you have a Mac and use Apple Mail, you can now setup Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live as an Exchange account too!

I do not have a Mac... yet, but thanks for the pointer. Google does some real dumb stuff in order to push people to use their proprietary apps and products. You can have push email if you install the Gmail or Inbox app. I am not a huge of Google and that prevents me from using any Android device as a primary device. I wish Palm's webOS was still around in mobile devices, but I settled with an LG tv.

Interesting, I came across this and it's why I stopped using Outlook!
