Hello,

I have a 365 subscription and can download Outlook to my Mac but I have a huge number of items in my sent items folder that I need to keep there for work reasons. Does anyone have a recommendation for a mail program I can use with my outlook account that will not try and download all of the sent items? I could not find a way to limit this in the Outlook for Mac program (my work IT people could not stop it from downloading all of the sent items either). I suppose I could just log on and use OWA but was hoping for an app with a better interface or a solution to the issue. Thanks very much!

I know this isn't an answer to your question, but I think you would be better off just letting it sync overnight if you need to keep those messages, and you're going to be sticking with Outlook.

Look under the Preferences>Accounts options for the account you are referring to - there's a couple of options to tailor to your needs. Choose the account you're needing to address, then choose the Advanced option and then the Server option - I opt to store my messages on the Server (another option is the local "My Computer" option in that pull down menu), and I also chose the "Download Header Only" option (I leave the "Inbox" option unchecked here, so I don't have to concern myself with phishing crap).

Thanks - for whatever reason I cannot find those options in my preferences. Have you tried any third party apps from the store?

Either you've not navigated in your Preferences properly or you're using a customized application (by your IT department, I'll guess that it's the former of the two. The options I referred to are "per account" as they can each have different options and are only available when an account is selected. For reference, see the attached screen shots, taken from my installation of Outlook 2011 (2016 offers the same options, I'm testing it for my company). I've included a screen shot of the relevant Help page specific to what I'm alluding to...

Open Outlook Preferences, choose "Accounts", then select the account you want to modify, then choose the "Advanced" button (bottom right corner), and that account's options are available to modify (see the "Server" and "Folder" Account Preferences).

Not for my Exchange/Office 365 accounts, at least on the Mac platform - I generally use Outlook 2013 in a Win 8.1 VM; I generally don't use Outlook 2011 any longer as 2016 will be out soon and MS's support for Outlook on the Mac has been half-baked for years (I also used 2004 when it was out...).

For basic use, the Mac apps aren't too bad - they do the job, but there's no centralized "suite" other than Outlook that I trust with my Exchange IMAPI accounts. I also use Airmail 2, but only for Gmail (which I use for personal junk); Airmail 2 has pretty-decent Exchange-based email support I've been told (3 of my friends use it every day) and very good per-account server control.

Wow - thanks so much!
