I am just throwing this out there as a recent user experience. Maybe it is my machine, maybe it is ALL machines...

I was toying around with the MDP-HDMI out to my HDTV. Most "high def" 720p stuff worked just fine. I ran into a problem while trying to output a my 10GB 1080p BR RIP of Kill Bill tonight.

I was using VLC player and it played, but the video was jittery. Frames looked like they kept freezing for a very slight second. Audio played fine and stayed in synch though.

I am using a 2010 13" 1.86mhz C2D with 4gb memory. My 2007 imac has almost similar specs (slightly faster processor - but obviously worse graphics card) and plays this file without a hiccup at all. I have a 40gb Dark Knight file that plays back fine on my iMac, but have not even tried to test it on the MBA yet. Seems like I will get similar results.

Is your audio going through the mDP to HDMI adapter? I've found that it requires more CPU usage due to decoding which is very CPU intensive. Using the headphone jack for audio solves the problem.

Using Plex instead of VLC solved this issue for me

Interesting. What kind of audio are you getting through the headphone jack? Stereo at best?

I do indeed use the hdmi for audio, but it seems to defeat the whole purpose to even watch a high quality file if all you're going to get is stereo sound.

Cool, I will try it out. I had mixed results with Plex on my imac, so I didn't even bother installing it on my MBA. But I might have to give it a shot. Thanks!
