Steve says you're all nuts

MacStories reports the full exchange below:

Dear Mr Jobs

On behalf of the international community of Apple consumers I would like to protest at the way Apple is apparently leaving us out in the cold with the Apple iPad product.

We have been fed either misinformation or no information at all and it is starting to cast doubt over Apple’s intents, at least it is to me.

I live in Switzerland and as yet we have no idea what the Apple iPad will cost here, if it is anything like the international pricing we have been used to to date on other Apple products, then it will certainly not be an “unbelievable price” as stated in your marketing.

If the delays and lack of pricing information is due to Apple doing it’s level best, to make sure that we are not being ripped off, then I applaud that work. However, as previously mentioned, I am doubting this.

Twice to my knowledge you have falsely stated international availability of the iPad and while I do not believe this is any fault of your own, I can imagine that you are not happy being shown as deliberately pulling the wool over the rest of the worlds eyes.

This is what you said at the iPhone OS4.0 announcement

11:10AM – Q: Will iPad’s success impact its international launch?

Steve: No, we said we’re launching internationally later in April, and we’re launching later in April.

Please can you clarify what is happening and why it has taken so long for information to be released to the international community.

May I suggest the following: Make it easier for us to purchase your products directly from the USA online Apple store. Many of us would be happy to do so and pay extra for local Applecare.

I look forward to your response.

Steve’s reply:

“deliberately pulling the wool over the rest of the worlds eyes”

Are you nuts? We are doing the best we can. We need enough units to have a responsible and great launch.

They're also missing one significant point. There are times when Apple can NOT legally make it easier for foreigners to buy in the Apple Store. Every country has its own regulations on what can be sold there. Apple can't sell you anything until it has been approved in your country.

HAHA! That was the funniest thing I have read all day. People really need to chill out and stop getting so bent out of shape about a consumer product. I really like Apple and their products but some of these emails are just....wow.

Where is William Shatner when you need him.

Someone should make a "Steve Jobs Magic 8 Ball." Actually, scratch that. I'm going to patent it :)

If you ever want to contact *LTD* just start a post in some slight way criticizing Apple. (If it's really urgent though its faster to praise Adobe).

True:D

It's funny you call me an apple shill. In other threads I'm lambasted as an evil troll (for example, when I post about how evil and inconsistent Apple's various appstore policies are, how the app review process is still broken, how apple needs to support bluray, the fact that there is no good reason for an appstore on ipad, etc.) Since both sides hate me, I must be right.

While you're not always right, I welcome your expertise in the endless legal discussions in the news discussions.

Joo Joo?Wepad?
I'm sure Apple is sweating bullets.

Indeed, there are no real competitors in this "category"

So true. You see the same here. People treat this tech stuff as life and death. It's enjoyable to discuss but enhanced images of CEO's to look like fruit and Bin Laden is a bit much.

Anyways, anecdotal evidence I was at the MePa Apple location getting a keyboard replaced and 4 iPad owners were there with wifi issues so I do think there are some issues there. Even crazier was the line through the middle of the store of people buying them. While everyone who touches one doesnt feel compelled to buy one, it is a great tool for apple to sell other hardware

Typical isn't it, the rest of the world is left second preference over the US, and the hide of Steve to inflate price by about 30% because we are not US.

Sexy. I hear if you light a red candle in front of it and stare into his eyes long enough, all the Blu-ray discs in your neighborhood will self-erase.

Too late. The man already has one. How do you think he makes all his business decisions and comes up with all the iCrap in the first place?

As I wrote yesterday the iPad violates European mobile/electronic standards (CE) and that's the reason why the iPad won't get released there until Apple fixed it. It has nothing todo with supply issues.

Israel now chose to ban all iPad imports and will confiscate them from tourists too.

Some things are too hilariously ironic for words.

Be sure to watch my next documentary "When Fascists Collide".

All iPads appear to have CE Logos certifying they conform to EU rules so I doubt that is the reason. If they did not have CE authorisation I doubt they would have placed the logos on the device.

Example Image of iPad markings

Apart from the one person in this thread and one news article in Norway (which is unsure if the rumour is true) I have not heard anything about the iPad missing CE approval.

Does anyone have any firm evidence at all? Or is this based on chinese whispers?

What are you babbling about? There has not been a single product in the Apple catalog that was either banned in the past, or can be banned today. Not in any of the EU countries... and in case you want to talk CE marks; go ahead. Fire away.

The CE compliance testing program is a peace of cake for Apple's suppliers – I used to do this for a computer manufacturer in the past – at least compared to other tests. No problem. Not at all.

I always felt that the Pax Cookie was a more relaxing time.

...and peace of mind.

Stranded leader runs country by iPad

Aparently one European didn't know about the International delay on iPads:

Stranded leader runs country by iPad
April 17, 2010 2:43 a.m. EDT

Jens Stoltenberg used his iPad to run Norway remotely.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS

* Norwegian prime minister Jens Stoltenberg used iPad to run country remotely
* Stoltenberg was stranded in U.S. as volcanic ash cloud grounded flights
* Apple's new device is "excellent" Stoltenberg says

(CNN) -- Running a country? There's an app for that.

When Norway's prime minister found himself stuck in New York as a volcanic cloud grounded flights to Europe, he fired up his new Apple iPad and did the job remotely.

In what could be a first for the new gadget, Jens Stoltenberg told CNN he used the iPad to manage the situation at home as Norway closed its airspace under threat from the ash.

A photograph of Stoltenberg using the device was posted on the Internet by Norwegian officials under the title "The prime minister is working at the airport.

"There are good means of communication, I have close contacts with my office all the times, and there are a lot of activities in Norway where we try to reduce the consequences of the volcano in Norway," Stoltenberg told CNN.

"It's very normal for a PM to travel abroad so this is not different from the other travels, it's just lasts some days more than expected. We have the internet, the mobile phone.

"I also use an iPad, which is excellent."

Like many other travelers grounded by the volcanic ash cloud, Stoltenberg has sought alternative routes to reach home, catching a flight to Madrid, Spain before completing the journey overland.

"I am afraid we won't be back before Saturday because I think most of our travel is going to be by car because the most of the airports in the Northern part of Europe are now closed," he said.

Would be more ironic and funny if it were true!

So what's up with the ipad 3g? I haven't been able to find anything about the actual release date online? Is it still coming out in late April?

My apologies if this is being discussed elsewhere on Macrumors. I just didn't find it.
