The bottom line is, when your Government:
  • quarantines 50% of your population
  • bans any travel, even down the street, without a permit
  • marches quarantine violators to re-education camps
  • runs two city cremation units at full capacity for weeks
  • starts up 40 additional incinerators
  • uses the military to run point on infection control
  • stops nearly the entire workforce in half the country
...then the official story is nothing but propaganda lies. No country commits economic suicide for a "flu" virus that has killed a couple thousand people in a country of 1.7 billion.

This is a lot worse than what you are hearing.
They are doing it because of the unknown, maybe correctly. However, this is probably just a new type of flu and the risk of shutting everything down and being scared is far greater than the virus itself.

People get scared and panic because it’s new. The longer it drags on, the more people adapt to new realities.

It may be worse than government reports, but this isn’t Ebola.

Why? So mass amounts of people can touch those 11 pros on display? Better get Apple care.

25,000 have recovered and climbing.
OP thinks it’s worse than is being reported. The official statistics are bad enough.

Corona is a flu virus without a vaccine. Only 2600 have died from it in China thus far. This last winter, since the flu vaccine was so bad, the CDC is estimating 40,000 dead from it. That should help keep things in perspective - it's not about preventing deaths, it's about preventing another common flu-type illness from being in the wild, and we're at that point. Every year the flu kills 20,000-50,000 in the US alone. If the press printed this tomorrow but didn't mention it was normal, there would be panic.

In 1918, 500,000 americans died from the flu. That's what the flu does to a population without a vaccine and proper treatment. So pull it together, it's not a big deal. Those that are dying probably had an underlying condition or were the very young and/or elderly.
You're comparing absolute numbers when you should be comparing death rates. This virus is much deadlier than the flu. It's also not a flu.

This whole thing could have been prevent if China just regulated it’s food markets to not be so disgusting.
This virus has nothing to do with the transmission from the animal world to humans. The virus didn’t jump from a dead animal. It was released at the market to infect as many people as possible, but it didn’t originate there.
Once the epidemic is contained, we will learn that this was a terrorist attack with a biological weapon.

SCMP reported that genetic sequencing has proven that this virus didn’t cross into humans the way that the Chinese government claims. You can read that article for yourself.

If you’re going to make this claim, it’s incumbent on you to supply references to support it. What I’ve read says COVID-19 is 82% homologous to SARS and about 88% homologous to two different bat coronaviruses.

Where did you read that this is a terrorist attack? The claim is highly suspect.

Seems like a pretty bad idea.

Yep, Apple Stores could become a hub for the virus to spread considering how busy they are.

This could also increase the global spread as well given how many different nationalities would visit an Apple Store and then fly home...

Here’s the article that I referred to:

As for the claim that it was a terrorist attack with a biological weapon, it’s my conjecture, but you will see that it will turn out to be the case. The proximity to the market of the only Chinese bio lab that contained that virus cannot be a coincidence. The lab is literally a few city blocks away from the wet animal market.

1) That article doesn’t say what you seem to think it says. It says there were possibly earlier person-to-person transmissions of the virus, even though a majority of the transmissions are traceable to the market.

“Earlier reports by Chinese health authorities and the
World Health Organisation said that the first known patient showed symptoms on December 8, and that most of the subsequent cases had links to the seafood market, which was closed on January 1.

“The research went on to say that based on the genome data it was possible that the virus began spreading from person to person in early December or even as early as late November.”

None of that means the virus didn’t stem from bat-to-human transmission. Due to the large number of cases traceable to the market, it’s obvious that there were quite a number of people at the market spreading the virus from 8 December 2019 until the market’s closure on 1 January 2020.

2) What do you mean “The proximity to the market of the only Chinese bio lab that contained that virus cannot be a coincidence.”

The "Spanish Flu" pandemic of 1918 infected 500 million people across the planet, and killed at least 20 million. The first wave was mild, but a second more deadly strain emerged a few months later.

Given the propensity for viruses to evolve and spread, I wouldn't be surprised if this new virus popped up everywhere.

The one thing we have going for us is that we have never been better able to produce vaccines against infection. That is what will save us.

Those that don't think this virus is a big deal might be lacking a moral compass. A virus that kills anywhere from 2-10% of infected is a big deal, let just hope none of you get it. You wouldn't be so cavalier about unnecessary precautions if your kids or parents die from it. The media always pray on your fears and desires to sell adverts and get eyes but this is not some fictional virus you can't catch, the consequences are real.

Amazing how the media hype machine can whip up a panic over a flu virus. The media loves this btw. However Spring is right around the corner and with it goes the corona flu virus. Everyone is going to feel very silly in a few months for panicking over nothing

Sorry but this is a ridiculous statement. First it’s not a flu virus. It is significant and is affecting many with substantial risk. Does the media over hype? Absolutely. I’d rather it be overhyped to help contain and slow the disease transmission progress. We don’t even know yet if warmer weather in the northern hemisphere coming soon will do anything to slow the virus. Also, as is clear with these types of viral infections, some people will shed virus for a certain period and have no symptoms whatsoever. That’s what’s scary. Whether you want to hype or not this is a major effing problem.

I visited Apple Store HK Plaza in Shanghai last at around 17:30. Haha, I am the only visitor and warmly welcomed by all staffs, like a Super Premium VIP......
This is what I am thinking. Business can't be that good. Sure the store might be open but who are the ones actually going to the stores?!?

Except Coronavirus is not Influenza. They are completely different viruses, which happen to share similar symptoms. Stop spreading misinformation.

I agree! Which country did that? Are you implying China? You wish, perhaps... I didn't read of any country committing suicide. Since you obviously have read it, care to elaborate and provide your sources?

a) It’s not a flu virus
b) There’s no guarantee that this new coronavirus will wane in the spring. SARS did but MERS did not
c) People aren’t panicking over “nothing” since there have already been thousands of deaths and mortality is estimated at 2% to 3%
d) If containment fails and it spreads widely, about 60% of the global population is likely to be exposed by the end of next year. If 2 or 3 die for every hundred cases (as current data suggests) the death toll will be extremely high
