I just had an “off topic” post removed from the “July 4th party trick” thread, which was widely criticized (and rightfully so)

The most charitable way I could describe that post is “bizarre” and I can see why they would want to limit open critique of their content slop, as it probably makes the site less compelling to the advertisers.

But pushing people to leave well deserved criticism in some hidden subforum nobody ever looks at is definitely not the way to win favor with the userbase who are the actual lifeblood of the site.

Instead of deleting the comments maybe consider actually taking some of them to heart.

Well criticism of a thread is off-topic I suppose. And the criticism you levied above is in the right place.

Many here are aware that it's over moderate. People post all day long, in different time zones, and if moderators are not in a good mood, they issue warnings for little or no reason. That's a problem. I post from the JST; hence, many people are either late at night or waking up. Calling people post either NOT INTERESTING or "we don't want to create a TALK THREAD", so how NOT INTERESTING, or so decides what constitutes the "TALK THREAD"? Who warns people about what is arbitrarily "interesting" or is "not arbitrarily interesting?" It's like what color is better, green or orange? The system isn't foolproof

That's a hell of a statement. How can you be sure if they are in a good mood or not, or if they're simply just applying the forum rules to the best of their ability? Is it possible that the user could be in a bad mood when they made a post that got moderated?
