Does that app have a CarPlay option? I've been wanting to try it but this has been keeping me from doing so. Also does it have complications for Series 4 watch faces?
I have no idea whether it supports CarPlay. Our cars do not support CarPlay.

He is adding Series 4 complications to iCatcher, but I don't know if a version with them has been officially released yet. In the three-day-old beta I'm testing, there are static round complications for the Infographic and Infographic Modular faces.

Yep, supports it. Use it all the time.

whoa, I didn't even know there was such a thing... i thought podcasts were just for listening. Learn something new every day.
I have only started to hear about it. Not many podcasts use it. PlanetMoney sometimes has some. I just go online to review theirs.

I do wonder about all the promotion of Overcast I see out there. It seems to have very positive coverage despite being an average podcast app, not better or worse than the others. However, worse than the others because the developer charges a whopping $10 a year to remove adverts.

Still waiting for at least 1 of 6 emails I’ve sent since January to be answered, or one of the MANy tweets.....about some podcasts downloading old/expired shows...

Support from the Developer is horrible :( shouldn’t take 6+ months to get an issue resolved)

Marco doesn't provide support, it seems. Probably jumping on Twitter and reporting something is your best bet.

Couldn’t that be a result of action in the RSS feed? I’ve had old podcast episodes re-download, but the podcast producers usually note that it was their fault, or unavoidable due to distribution changes of some kind.

One of the features of Overcast, is that it checks Marco's servers, which check the RSS feeds... so I'd imagine there is the possibility for something to go wrong there.

(Note: It's a feature, because otherwise, the podcast player has to scan each RSS feed for new/different episodes, which takes time and bandwidth. Before I switched to Overcast, it would sometimes take Apple's Podcast app 20-30 minutes to scan and update all my subscribed feeds.)

Amazing app. Caring and thoughtful developer. Proud to financially support this app.

Yes, it is one subscription I almost look forward to paying each year. :)

I disagree about the developer. As he says himself in the app settings, he is a one person show and he is trying to have good work/family balance. He does not answer emails or generally respond to Tweets, but he is constantly updating the app. We should thank him for making the free version on on par feature-wise with the paid one (for the most part). It's a great app. Voices sound so much better. I have a hard time using the native Podcast app now.

BUT, because he does work alone, the users are often beta testers in effect. If this battery drain issue is related to Overcast I can all but promise you that he will fix it quickly.

Yeah, he's pretty upfront about it. If you listen to ATP, he sometimes talks about it. I'm not sure that makes it the right thing to do, though. Almost every software company provides some kind of support.

That said, it is an awesome app, and I'm more than happy to pay the annual subscription. I just wish there were support... especially in regard to the above way he scans RSS feeds. I've had a couple podcasts where I knew there were new episodes, but Overcast didn't update, for months. It hasn't happened lately, but when it did, it was a bit annoying there was no one to help resolve it. Marco makes plenty of money (as far as I can tell, and certainly given the number of paid subscriptions, which he states inside the app) to provide support. He wouldn't have to do it himself.

Ever since the update to version 5 it kills the battery on my 5S. I have to charge it 2 or 3 times a day now, and it's because of Overcast. It seems to be running some kind of process to find out how often new episodes of podcasts come out, and I attribute the battery killing to that. The problem is I don't care about that function, there's no way to disable it, and all my podcasts are already loaded there, so instead of switching to another App, I decided to wait it out until a version comes out that fixes it.
Unfortunately, apps rarely come with the option to disable bugs. ;)

is anybody else having MAJOR sync issues with overcast? for whatever reason, the last week or so, the app is not updating upon opening it (have to pull to refresh, even though background app refresh is on) and there is no syncing going on whatsoever between my iphone and my ipad.

It's been working fine for me.

There has been sporadic issues with it not refreshing on its own. But generally, I am getting notifications of episodes and they are downloading on their own.

I was having some crashing issues a while back, but not any sync'ing/updating issues that I'm aware of.
I don't use between-device sync'ing though (if you mean keeping track of playback point, etc.), so I can't speak to that. I'm getting new episodes when I launch that app, as far as I know. I'm also in a habit of 'refreshing' apps in general though, so I'm sure I've manually triggered it a bunch of times recently, too. :)

That said, in the past I've noticed a particular podcast stop adding new episodes that I could see had new episodes in iTunes/Apple Podcasts. I suspect that Marco's servers get 'gummed-up' from time to time and it doesn't get fixed until he does something (reboots, etc.).

You could try tweeting Marco... but outside that, he doesn't seem to have any support (unfortunately).
