Anyone else had the issue of the icons for apps at the top bar of mission control displaying too large?
I have had this since I got my 5k iMac last year. I sent an email to apple without reply. Tried repairing disk permissions, and have been installing updates since with the slim hope it would fix it.

Does anyone have some suggestions please?

looks normal, since your apps are in full screen mode, so it recognizes it as a space.
try readjusting your display resolution...and see if that changes anything.

It is a bug in Mission Control on the Retina iMac which seems to be a low priority for Apple. Icons for full screen apps on my M295X Retina iMac look the same.

No, adjusting to another HiDPI resolution doesn't change anything. It is clearly an issue with HiDPI sizing that only happens with icons for full screen apps.

Ah, at least it isn't just me I guess... Shall keep fingers crossed for a fix.
Can't be bothered with a clean install just for this (which might not even work!)
