Hi all!

Let’s discuss OWC Mercury Accelsior E2:
1) is it possible to use non OWC SSDs with it? Does it compatible with modern NVMe SSD?
2) does it support Trim?
3) what the maximum speed did you get on E2 without raid 0?

Going to buy this device...

Probably better off going with an M.2 SSD unless you got a great deal on the E2. The two eSATA ports are handy to have.

It's roughly 500MB/s, fast for its time but slow now.
Built-in garbage collection routine, so Trim should be turned off in the OS

Mine works fine with Sierra but does not like High Sierra and Mojave, likely due to APFS.

Thanks for the replies!

If you have a very good and low priced offer to get one and have a use for the external data ports, you can consider it.

However, being a longterm member of this forum, we have heard multiple reports about issues with sandforce Controller chips.
That alone would not be a showstopper, however given the new NVMe SSDe Support and many more & faster ssd alternatives, + Dual SSD Pcie cards such as the highpoint, anfeltec or the crest card, -I would be reluctant depending on budget and speed to really pull the trigger.
