OWC dual enclosures? will they work with 1 drive?

do you have to have two hdds for the OWC dual bay drives to work?

and on there site there is a logo that says "time machine ready" on the dual bay enclosures that is not on the single bay enclosure listings. is there some reason why the single bays wouldn't be "time machine ready"?

Same crap as Windows Ready or what ever variation they're using. I would guess the drive is pre-formatted to HFS hence the "time machine ready."
