Owner of Mid-2011 model and would like to swap out mechanical for SSD. While lots of good info on how to do it, am considering having OWC do it. Anyone use their service and what kind of experience did you have with them?

As a point of comparison, I paid $300 for a 750 GB Samsung 840 EVO on Newegg last Feb (it MAY have been on sale at the time. That's an almost $80 savings compared to the 500 GB 850 PRO on OWC. Newegg currently has the 512 GB 850 Pro for $257, over $100 cheaper than OWC is asking.

I can't speak for the installation in a 2011 directly, but if it's anything like the 2012 installation in my 2012 was pretty easy. I took my time and followed the step by step on iFixit. You can get the kit from them for $30 with all the tools, screws and the cable needed.

if you do decide to do it yourself, VERIFY which bay your existing drive is in before ordering their kit - some, but not all, minis come with their drive installed in the opposing slot... its like a 95 to 5% ratio, but you could - like me- have one of the 5% and add a week to your turnaround time when you realize you have the wrong cable.

IMO, it's a fairly easy install if you take your time and follow the guides as you go along. Also paying attention to what you are doing helps greatly.
