OWC Mercury Pro optical drive stopped working with Sonoma

For me, after upgrading to Sequoia 15.4.1, the OWC Mercury drive will only mount a disc once. When I eject and replace with a new disc, it will not mount. On reboot, the new disc mounts. Basically, I have to restart each and every time I want to mount a new disc. Hopefully OWC can stand by their hardware and work with Apple to fix this. I've lost so much data to OWC's flaky external drives that I'll never buy from them again, but this is a drive I've had for years and I'd really like to use some CDs.

Must be external as no Sequioa supported hardware has optical drives… try disconnecting the drive and reattaching instead of power cycle.

Since I installed MacOS Sonoma, my OWC Mercury Pro optical drive (CD/DVD/Blu-ray) can no longer mount any discs. I've tried this with both an M1 iMac and the latest Macbook Pro, both on Sonoma 14.1.2. OWC has no idea why this is happening and LG (the drive manufacturer) is equally clueless. I've looked in the security settings but can't find anything pertaining to this drive, which shows up on the system report on the USB list.

Behavior: Drive opens, disc is inserted, drive closes, tries to spin up the disc several times then finally gives up and ejects it. Besides trying this drive on two different machines, I've tried multiple discs but nothing works. Does anyone have an idea what might be going on?

Disk inserted spited, hummm region locked or read error imo.
