This is going to be sweet connected to my 30m Corning optical Thunderbolt cable - don´t like the ugly logo in the front either..

Dual Monitor Support

Does anyone know if this dock supports dual monitor support (as one extended desktop, instead of just mirroring). I know a lot of docks can only support mirroring or one monitor. I have a 2011 MBP (quad core) with one thunderbolt port. I'm wondering if I can plug this into the thunderbolt port and then run one monitor off of the thunderbolt port in the dock, and another from the HDMI dock.

1TB + 1 HDMI. So two as long as one is an Apple TB since I don't know many other monitors that are pure TB and not just mini DP

No reason to think that this will be any different from other TB docks w.r.t. monitor support. One display per. Thunderbolt peripheral is a fundamental limitation of Thunderbolt. A second monitor would have to be a Thunderbolt display, or connected via a second Thunderbolt peripheral.

I wish there was a gizmo to connect a thunderbolt only hdd to a USB port... Darn,darn,darn...

Windows compatibility?

No mention of any windows compatibility in the pre release info on the OWC dock. Do you think the functionality of the device will carry over to a windows bootcamp partition even though it's not mentioned?

Anyone with the Belkin or Caldigit TB docks ever use them under windows? Their sites note they support windows as well and I am curious if there are any issues or specific limitations.

I have a 2011 imac that I would like to pick up a TB dock for so that I can get USB3 support. I just want to make sure that it carries over to my windows 8.1 partition. Currently file transfers to an external drive are painfully slow.

Has anyone who has pre-ordered got a note from OWC as to when this dock will ship. It's now Dec 11 and early Dec in my book is before Dec 15.

I was wondering the same. I've seen no movement on my preorder.

Same thing I'm wondering - I'm considering pulling the trigger on the new OWC dock. The Belkin dock we had was flaky sometimes when using Windows in BC with our 2009/10 iMacs and I sold the dock to a friend and am now using a Kanex TB-USB/eSATA adapter - works great for our Macs, Win in BC, and Win boxes but not cheap at $80 but so much cheaper than an hour or two of therapy... :D

Shouldn't a regular mini DP work regardless? Only difference would be you wouldn't be getting all of the extra I/O that's on the back of Apple's TB monitor.

Just received an email with the following update:

Thank you for your pre-order of the OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock. This is an important update concerning its current expected delivery date. Due to a minor delay encountered during production, we now anticipate your OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock shipping on or before January 9th.

The OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock is the dock you've been waiting for and we want your experience with it to be perfect. While it pains us to be missing our original delivery expectation, there is no compromise on the manufacturing. With everything on track, we look forward to shipping your OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock within the timeline noted. We sincerely apologize for the delay and inconvenience.

Got the same notice.....and why is it almost every Thunderbolt doc misses it's deadline?

I pre-ordered over the weekend and got an email saying it was expected to ship in a batch at the end of Jan.

I just pre-ordered and the message says shipping is anticipated in late January 2015.

Also they said they'll charge $5 to verify payment information.

Nope, that's what I thought too. Basically from what I understand, minDP is used up by the HDMI port, leaving on the second DP channel that's embedded into TB.

If you read their description, they kind of say that it only works with TB + HDMI, but not HDM + mDP or HDMI + DP, or HDMI + DVI, etc

CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 2

CalDigit have just announced their new Thunderbolt Station 2 dock. Now with Thunderbolt 2, HDMI up to 4K res, eSATA, 3x USB 3.0 ports, ethernet, and audio in/out. I used the original Thunderbolt Station. This looks like a great update, especially aesthetically. Fits in with the new Mac Pro design.

http://www.caldigit.com/thunderboltstation2/

$30 off until Jan 25th - $169.99. The OWC dock is $249. Belkin is $299 and they don't have the extra eSATA ports.

Apparently the Thunderbolt Station 2's front USB port supports charging even if the device is not connected to a Mac.

I can use it in vertical position which will definitely free up space in my edit suite.

Got mine today, so far it's working great!
