Long time Mac user here (since 1996).

I bought last September an OWC Thunderbolt Dock to go with my brand new iMac M1. Along with the dock, I got two OWC Envoy Pro SSDs, one 2TB and a 4TB.

At the beginning, everything worked fine. Then I believe there was an OS update and noticed later that the external SSDs did not mount at all.

Checked the Finder prefs, and external disks are set to mount on desktop when connected and also set to show in sidebar, which they do not do anymore when connected with the dock. Checked the Hardware section in About This Mac/System Information in the Thunderbolt section and it says no devices connected.

Tried both Thunderbolt ports, nothing doing.

I launched Disk Utility and they (dock + SSDs) didn't show up, so could not mount them manually.

Thinking it might be the OWC device, sent it in to be checked under warranty but everything is normal, they checked the cables, the device, the power supply, everything is as it should be.

Is there a System .plist somewhere I can trash or something else I can do to make this work?

I found an article at AppleInsider that sounded promising on how to manage Thunderbolt & USB security in macOS Ventura but the part in the Security section with a dropdown box I am supposed to find in Privacy & Security isn't there so not sure if Apple changed it in the latest OS update or what the problem is.

As of now, the SSDs only appear if I plug them directly into the Thunderbolt ports in the iMac, but the dock is now useless and I certainly want to be able to use it!

The problem seems to be between the dock and the iMac, probably software related.

Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

P.S.: Also noticed that in Ventura, when I download Internet files, there will be two files, one with 0 bytes with the correct name and another one with the suffix name-of-file-1 contains the real deal. It's nothing bad, but it is annoying.

Solution found! But this will probably be the stupidest ID-18 error you will read.

I had used the wrong port all this time! The Thunderbolt port in front has an icon and I had always taken it mistakenly for a Thunderbolt monitor-only port. I watched a video of a review and the icon was representing a Mac, not a monitor! In my defence, I DO have to change my glasses... Attached is the icon in question... Thanks for reading. 😬
