I'm about to dive into my MBP 13 to install an SSD. I know I need some tools to do this properly and wonder about the quality of the tools sold by OWC. I hate buying crap, even if I am only going to use them once or twice.

Any observations from the masses? Other recommendations?

Installed my OWC Data Doubler today using the tools provided by OWC, worked like a charm. Wouldn't advice em for installing 20 Data Doublers with the same tools, but mine look fine after installing.

used my OWC tools to replace two hard drives in two different machines, as well as upgrade RAM in two different machines.

The tools show absolutely no signs of wear. I'm a OWC fan big time!

I bought the tool kit to install a SSD and the TORX driver and all was okay quality, but the 00 size Phillips screwdriver they provide is low quality.

The head of the screwdriver is not hardened steel like a quality driver would be. It will do the job for you if you press firmly and are careful when using it to remove the case screws, but it does not grip the screw heads as well as a quality driver would. For a one time operation like you are doing it will be okay, but this is not a screw driver you would want to use over and over.

I ended up replacing the Phillips driver with this one. Much better quality and bites into the screw head better.

Like I said, for just this one time job you will probably be okay.

Thanks, all, for your comments.

I'll probably check an electronics store in the area before I go to OWC, but it looks like these are OK for limited use.
