i don't understand why everyone is so stuck on this Mac firmware updater that OWC will hopefully release in the near future. i'm just glad that they are communicating that they are working on one...and i'm glad that they aren't letting it out of the box until it works the way they think it should. so what if they haven't delivered on their promise of a mac firmware updater yet. their SSDs work fine. i have several from last year that are working perfectly with no firmware update whatsoever. seems like several people around here have something else against OWC, and your using this firmware update fiasco to make them look bad. what did they do to hurt you? you guys have to be fair.....seems like OWC is at least trying....they aren't evil 🙂

They are communicating with us for the simple reason why want our rapport and eventually our business - nothing wrong with that but don't get the idea that they are doing it from the goodness of their hearts. We customers don't owe them anything.

there's a lot of confusing, contradicting, and incorrect info about OWC SSDs in this forum...i think they are replying to provide information about their products, which in my opinion is pretty cool.

Finally Mac updater for OWC costumers!!

See Picture, taken from OWC's tech support site. And the first update for OWC 6G SSD will come on September 7, 2011.

So is buying an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G a good choice or not? I will probably be getting a 2011 MBP i7 2.2 Ghz soon and was thinking of getting that SSD for it as well.

Will it work well with it??

I have one, and its working without any issue. On SL and Lion. (Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 120g on a MBP 13 i7)

kinda ironic that a company that sells something that gets rid of your dvd drive requires you use a dvd to use the updater...😕

I think it is nice OWC finally is providing a method to upgrade their SSD firmware without installing Windows, but I the claims they are making on their blog seem a little inaccurate.

From the blog comments, this appears to be nothing but a Linux (Ubuntu) boot DVD ISO and is certainly not any kind of "industry first." So the "Mac firmware updater" OWC has been promising for a year is a Linux boot DVD. Am I missing something?

True. But after installing the upgrade my SSD write / read speeds have decreased from 265 MB/s to 225. I wrote to OWC, they asked to fill RMA, sent the drive back and they shipped me a new one. However the speeds are 232 MB/s (write) and 240 MB/s (read).

All test were done in AJA software. I really don't know what to think about it. But one thing is sure: customer service is brilliant in OWC. They replaced my disk (it was 1 year old) and shipped by UPS to Singapore.
