I will second the quality of the service I have received from them over the last 15-20 years of purchasing their products, both self-branded and otherwise. I have never had a bad customer service issue in probably 30-40 purchases. Drives, memory, accessories, cables, etc whether for myself or for where I worked. Always replaced anything that was defective, or even appeared defective, with ease and cheer. Yes, some things cost more than some other sources, but for me the little extra cost is worth a better overall experience.

I will 3rd, as I also been an OWC's customer for some years now and also they had been giving me superior customers services for my mac.

A lot of them are pulled from other Macs, and some are even new. There are people who work for Apple and have access to these parts and can buy them in bulk and re-sell. Check the sellers' feedback. Many of them have sold hundreds of them.
Thanks for the tip. So might I find an SSD for a 2012 Mac mini this way? Or would it need to be device specific? (I.e.: Mac Pro SSD only fits Mac Pro etc…)

I thought the issue was initially that OWC SSDs for the rMBPs were seen by the machine as external rather than internal drives. I assume that this update reclassifies the OWC drive as internal so it can work with bootcamp. Can anyone with one of these drives clarify?

BTW, OWC is an excellent brand, I've only had good experiences with them.

OWC, overpriced crap! Horrible customer service, horrible, slow, and overpriced products with a "MAC compatible" sticker.
Strange, OWC products have always done right by me. Both personally and in a professional capacity.
They also seem to be the de facto standard for a lot of media production professionals.
So what is your issue? Did you have one drive go bad?

OWC is "overpriced crap" in the same way that Apple is "overpriced crap." You won't find any bargains with either but will end up with quality products and good support.

And questionable reliability. I went through 2 of their drives for my 2012 MacBook Air back in the day. One died after <30 minutes. The other died after I believe a month. Wasn't worth it, and I'm scarred for life from using their products.

True that on questionable reliability. Persistent problems with the OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock - wirecutter(dot)com had so much trouble with that dock that Wirecutter WITHDREW its selection of the OWC dock as best Thunderbolt dock. Even with lots of handholding from OWC, the Wirecutter reviewer could not get the dock to work reliably. Embarrassing. Truly embarrassing.
