I get that this works, but does ATT catch on and automatically charge you anyway? Granted the sim would only be in the iPad for a short amount of time.

I have been wondering about this. Has anyone done it successfully, more than a few times, without any charges showing up?

I used mine all day and no charges ever appeared. Stop being so paranoid lol

Paranoid, I'm not paranoid, why do you think I'm paranoid, am I acting paranoid...;)

Thanks for the answer. I would rather pay than get caught not paying, that's all. I love my phone too much to have them cancel my contract. Oops, being paranoid again.

thanks for your inputs everyone. i've decided to go with the iphone.

i love the display, the feel, the typing, and my comfort level with iOS.

one thing that i can't get over is how "substantial" the iphone feels in your hands compared to other handsets. i feel like i'm holding more than some cheap plastic with some thrown together silicon inside. i just like how every square inch of the phone is engineered.

I think if you're going to get a smart phone, iPhone 4 is the way to go. But, you should really think about whether or not you need one. Since buying my iPad, I basically only use my iPhone for music/maps while driving, and Yelp. I also use the web browser when I'm out and about without my iPad.

So, while I still use it a lot, I think a lot about whether these functions are worth the $100+ a month. And really, my iPad would perform most of these functions perfectly (better, even) if I didn't have my phone. The only downside is portability. But again, that phone will cost you thousands of dollars over the life of the contract. So keep that it mind. A cheaper phone might be fine for you.
