Arn is being sarcastic, saying get ready for the rumors after the Oct 4th announcement.

its hilarious that original thread creators get thumbed down by MR readers with news they don't want to hear. :p

apple has too have something planned up there sleeve for Tuesday otherwise everyone including myself will be disappointing. but whichever phone is the newest verison other then the lower end cheap 4 is the one i'll be waiting in line for. is it at least safe too say theirs a 0% chance the only phone that gets announced on Tuesday is just a lower end 4?

I disagree. You likely got a negative rating because "they" think these kind of threads are obnoxious.

The owners of BGR say that there will be 2 new iPhones. The owners of 9to5Mac aren't sure, and Arn says only 4S.

So there you go Apple... you have effectively and thoroughly confused the entire industry, and even major news sites like Bloomberg and WSJ.

As for me, I'm going with what Joshua Topolsky (from TIMN/Engadget) said: a redesigned iPhone with tapered/teardrop design. He's got some legit inside sources.

How can iPhone 5 launch in 2012 if the iPhone 4S comes out?

People need to stop confusing the use of G's as generations and realise that when another iPhone is released in 2012, it will be the sixth generation iPhone.

The iPhone 4S may not be named the iPhone 5, but it will be the fifth generation iPhone no matter how much people tell themselves it's not.

The iPhone 4S, if it is the top end model announced on Tuesday IS the "iPhone 5".

I'm not confused in the slightest.

N90A is the revised, 8GB iPhone 4 (currently N90).

N94 is the iPhone 4S, the FIFTH generation iPhone model.

I didn't vote you down, but your subject is wrong. He said, "so 4S, no 5. seems to be the way we're going"

This hardly means a succinct "There is no iPhone 5". He's talking about the current state of the rumors.

Why would apple release an Iphone named Iphone4s?

Apple has a major os update coming out named ios5 i don't believe apple being quite clean with naming conventions would name the hardware coming out after a previous generation of phone and os?
Apple will want to advertise their 5th generation OS,with a 5th generation phone

I believe even if the phone is an upgrade to the iphone 4. It will be named the iphone 5:apple
:apple:

per WSJ article in February, the iPhone4S is actually the N97.

The new phone—one of its code names is N97—would be available to carriers at about half the price of the main iPhones.

so you're wrong. i trust WSJ over what you feel is right.

Let me get this straight.

This is a post on MacRumors about a tweet from the guy that runs MacRumors that has a bunch of stories about the iPhone on MacRumors.

Did I get that right ?

Delicious.

:p

I have a couple of concerns about that article from the WSJ.

1) It's old...things could have changed. Apple could have changed direction
2) Some of the info seemed unclear. I suspect WSJ took multiple info sources and drew conclusions on their own. They could have mixed some of it up.

I still susepct there is an N97, but it's not an iPhone Nano as they suspected and I think logically it would be the rumored iPhone 5 with a teardrop design. I HOPE that the reason we aren't seeing it in the inventory system is that Apple is being more careful than usual AND the rumors about delays were true. We may see an updated iPhone 5, but a few weeks delayed. I don't think Apple would announce or release the iPhone 5 if the delay was more than a few weeks.

it still feels extremely relevant though. In a Bloomberg article, their source says that this 'N97' phone could be scrapped altogether. We could just be seeing one iPhone this year after all. Could be slight marginal update, could be a big update. I am thinking the latter in this case.

While Apple has aimed to unveil the device near mid-year, the introduction may be delayed or scrapped, the person said. Few Apple employees know the details of the project, the person said. Apple often works on products that don’t get released.
