Hey what do you think of my new packaging project my plan is print the logo in red on the black croco lid.

What's your first impression of the packaging?
Who do you thinks the target group is for the product male/female or both?
What do you like and dislike with with the packaging?
What do you think the packaging tells about the product?

    All replies are welcome...

Um...that is clearly targeted at a male audience and its a little unbalanced.

I agree with Wildpalms. The unbalanced part is due to the croc top not really sitting on the red bottom properly. It looks a little off.

I think it should sit down on the bottom half more, it looks a bit tall and unbalanced.
What's the product that the box is for?

Thanks yoppie. The croc top is not put properly on the picture. In the reality I fits precise. Or did you think the croc and the red don't match?

Here is another picture. Sorry for the poor picture quality. It's only a prototype the top fit perfect in reality

I was talking about the top and the way it was seated. As for the colors, technically they match. If you're asking if the colors together and the croc design make the package great, well we would have to know what's in the package and who it's targeted towards to have a good answer.

If it's something male oriented and the product is for that "living the fast life" male then you may be onto something. I can't help but think of motorcycle riders and sports car drivers when I see it.

Do you think I should reverse the croc and the red?

That shade of red with the black, coupled with the PVC and crocodile skin says "sexual fetish" to me.

Which, of course, could be exactly the look you're going for. :)

I wouldn't say it was biased towards a 'male' or a 'female' product, though.

Interesting. The croc top makes me think it would be a product for a woman, as it's women who have crocodile shoes, crocodile purses, etc. I've never seen a product or packaging for a man that used that material. It sounds like I'm in the minority, though.

    No offence is intended here.

What exactly is the product its going to be housing, it looks like some sort of lollipop or chew bar.

On a personal note - to me it just looks kind of cheap and tacky (might be photo's etc), I would be expecting some cheap knock off perfume or similar in it. I think what does it is the shine, I never associate a crocs skin as being highly polished/reflective except when wet, also I think the red is slightly off as well, needs to be a deeper.

If I was to be doing the box, I would be going for a really deep red (ir one with a bit of depth to it rather than the one you chose) and maybe trying a matt finish to the croc (if you have to have it).

it looks like it is targeted toward women to me as well. It's that particular shade of red with the Black Croc. TO me, it says Hi-End Women's "insert product" in theory, but the execution does come off a little cheap. I think it is unbalanced as well, but really, to me it's because the top (being so dark) is just as tall as the bottom, which makes it feel like it is going down. To me, you need to exaggerate one or the other. Make the top skinny and the bottom heavier, or make the bottom skinny and the top Heavier. Like the example i've attached. That's all i got.

To me it looks like something geared toward a gaudy, perhaps Italian, greasy-haired male who shops at International Male. It doesn't look feminine to me at all. I agree with Lau that its contents might be of the type found at Lovers Package.

Thanks for your reply. The reason for choosing the high-loss red is to match the high-gloss red the product has inside. The croc does not shine that much in reality I think is the camera the flashes to much. I where a little afraid using a matt or darker red than the original red color of the products...since it has to look good as the same product inside and outside.

Thank you so much Jason. Really useful and great perspective. I agree with you. To make it more red would be possible. It would be a problem to use more croc the bottom would then be to small to hold the product and the product will tilt.

I like that you added texture to the top of the box. I understand you need to use that particular red, and you mentioned you may put the logo in red on the black croc skinned top?

Personally, I think that wouldn't look right. The logo would be distorted by the texture, and not crisp and clean lined. Also, if the logo is red on the black, I think that makes the entire package a bit too simplistic and coordinated.

Perhaps you might try putting the logo on the bottom half on the side of the box? I'd also use a color you haven't presented yet. A shade of white would be highly visible.

As far as gender, at this point, I think it's too soon to call it. Once the logo is in place, you have room to manipulate whether or not it's overall effect is masculine or feminine based on the actual logo and the font, placement, and sizing of the logo. You could transform what you've showed us into something that leans more towards feminine, masculine, or retain this present "look", which I'd consider somewhere in between.

I think you did a good job, considering you had specific guidelines. Upon viewing, I wanted to touch this box and feel the texture. I'm not sure if it's just the flash, or if it's actual, but it looks shiny, and I love shiny stuff. :)

I'm female, and this box would attract me if you added a feminine touch (font/logo). I'd expect it to contain lingerie, cosmetics, or similar. But deep down, I'd be secretly hoping it was a special edition U2 handheld macbook. ;)

    It's interesting but confusing!

I love the combination of black and red, but I don't like the particular shade of red you've chosen. For me it looks very "80s" - perhaps there's something about the mock croc, or perhaps it's because that particular shade of red with the black reminds me of a perfume called Paris by YSL, which I remember from the early 80s.

There are 14 individually wrapped items in that box, which upon closer inspection appear to contain whey protein and hydrolysed caseinate... (unless that's printed just to throw us off!) so I'm thinking they're some kind of sports/energy bars or something?? But the packaging in a fancy box just doesn't quite fit with that.

At first sight I thought there were just 7 wrapped items so it could've been a week's worth of underpants or something.

Oooo, are they edible panties? :D

What other kind of packaging do you do? I was looking for some custom packaging for like a CD/DVD boxset of some of the music I have done over the years.

Thanks a million digitalnicotine. Superb feedback. Sorry for not getting in touch earlier. I have dropped the idea about red print on the croc. Maybe a embrossed logo.

Anyway think I'll stick with a black/white logo on the the red in the botton half of the box. And a logo inside the the box.

About the shiny surface of the box I have to admit it's shiny but reflective like in the photos. The box have really nice feel and really quality experience.

    As a massive U2 fan my self I wouldn't mind a new handheld macbook:D

Thanks for feedback. The product has nothing to do with sports/energy bars. Just a sample wrapper for the purpose. The red color is not precise on photos anyway the red is not the same on Paris by YSL. Think YSL is lighter.
