Hi all,
I used to work in the old iWorks Pages and I loved it. I had to migrate to Pages 14 on Sonoma/M3 pro.
Now I keep on finding strange changes.
In my numbered headings, I use a tab for managing spaces.
For example: “1 First Chapter”.
The spaces in this heading above I created in Pages with a tab to control distances, especially with double numbers chaptes. In pages 7 (iWorks 11) this used to give me the possibility to control indents after the number in the TOC by setting the tab to a specific number, for example 1cm. Sub headings without numbers in this TOC I gave an indent, so the first levels and sublevels were nicely vertically aligned after the chapter numbers.
Now, in Pages 14, the tab setting possibility for heading level in TOC seems to have disappeared to affect the TOC.
I attach two screenshots:
tab01.png:
Observe the tab between the “3” and “Third chapter”. In the right column, a 2cm left aligned tab has been set.
tab02.png:
Observe the tab between “chapter” and page number. That works fine.
However, the tab which has been inserted in the original chapter heading is not reproduced in the TOC heading: observe the dot between the chapter number and “First”, which is an invisble sign for a space.
tab03.png:
Giving an extra tab in the heading “1 First chapter” only gives an extra space in the corresponding TOC heading.
tab04.png:
Example with a heading 2, a sub level in the TOC. With the text indent feature it does let me control its position.
But no text aligning when for headings using numbers.
Any thoughts?
It crossed my mind to apply list numbers for the TOC, but then TOC will display two numbers: one from the numbered list, the other from the chapter number I like to maintain in the chapter headings. Unfortunately numbered lists styling is not supported for the TOC.
Thanks in advance.
