I think Eddie Cue and team have lost touch with the iWorks user base. The new Keynote is basically a POS. And that's one of my nicer comments about these changes. The rest will go to Apple's feedback page.

Does anyone know if it still possible to number pages as i, ii, iii, etc. instead of using numbers? Can't find that function anywhere!

As much as i hate Microsoft, i have to say: if you need a powerful word processing app, there's no alternative to Word.

Most people don't need Word, they only think they need.
Pages is ok for basics things.

Open the bullets and list drop down and select "Harvard".

It doesn't work. I highlight a page number as it is now (i.e., a number) and when I select Harvard from the bullets and list drop down menu it doesn't change the format of the page number from a number into "i". Are you sure this is how I should do it?

EDIT: Figured it out. It's on the Section tab of the setup inspector! Next problem: TOC still shows numbers instead of "i"s for those pages! I tried re-building the TOC and no dice. Any clues? :S

Oh, my apologies, I misread your original post. :(

Very disappointed with this direction. I was holding out for an actual upgrade, but clearly that's not going to happen. Just downloaded Microsoft Office instead.

This is insane. They have to bring some of this stuff back eventually. Hopefully not four years from now... Right?

Don't count on it. FCPX has come a long way but they're STILL adding back FCP7 features. Aperture... god only knows I'm clutching onto my copy of 3.2. I can DEFINITELY wait to see what Aperture X looks like. Judging by Logic's redesign, I didn't think it would be too bad, but after the iWork debacle, looks like I'm going to have to hold out.

I don't know how Apple can be this stupid. Next thing you know, they'll remove 70% of the features in OS X 10.10 to promote "parity" with iOS 7.

If anyone's overwritten a Pages document in v5 and has no back-up, I found a recovery solution:

Open your document in Pages 5 and go to File > Revert to > Browse all versions...

Use the Time Machine interface to restore the version before you opened in Pages 5. You'll get a repeat of the warning about how your document is going to be messed up, but you can OK that.

Close the document.

You should now be able to open the same document in Pages '09.

PAGE LAYOUT mode

OUTLINE mode

both gone.... and both the only reason for using pages over other word processors

Page Thumbnails

In previous version of Pages you could cut/copy/paste/duplicate the page thumbnails in the left sidebar. All contextual menus related to this feature have been removed.

Yeah, but the anagram of "parity" is "iParty"

Oh my goodness, what a debacle!! :(

I'm still running Pages '08 and have been waiting for this upgrade. I haven't upgraded yet and it looks as though I'm not going to now. No alignment guides?? They weren't perfect but not bad.

I use Pages for almost everything, documents, layout work. If I can't do it in Pages I use InDesign but find Pages much quicker and simpler to use for straightforward things. And with Adobe having moved everything to subscription, how long, I wonder, will they both be compatible? Then what?????

Does anyone know how to edit a header? I have a 2 x 2 table with the Date, pages numbers and the title, etc. I cannot TAB over to get to the right side table cells. I can't TAB key at all in a table. Had to go back to V4 to finish my work.

Comments broken?

In Pages 5, if I insert a comment, the comment appears as a tiny colored box at the left side of the text. To read the comment you have to click on the little box. So you cannot read a running series of comments... Is this right? Anyone have any suggestions for how to make them all appear in series down the page?

Tables have been butchered. I think to make them better with a touch screen. Just makes editing harder on a Mac.

As for TAB not working now: the clue, Apple, is in the name of the key.

They made one big table improvement: when you copy and paste a complex table style, it now gets replicated across multiple cells. I asked Apple to fix this years ago and they finally did. In a completely new application I can't use.

finally got around to working with the new pages. wow this is just a terrible application. I've moved over to google docs, so no big loss. the only worthwhile iwork app is keynote, but as soon as i can embed or link personal videos into google presentations i'm gone.

I just noticed that there is also a "Pages '09" option in the export menu.

Thank you for spotting. And than again, this is evidence that Apple knew some people would continue to prefer the paid old version over the free new version and went with downgrading it anyway.

Dumbing down

I have a horrible feeling that this is all leading to a general 'dumbing down' of the entire Mac 'experience'. The reason is simple. There are huge numbers of not very bright people buying computers these days and if the Mac becomes simpler (i.e. has fewer options and controls to worry about) it will appeal to a huge market sector. IOS 7 is introducing lots of 'noon-tech' users who can just about manage to dab a finger on an icon and that's it.

We should suggest a 'Pro' version of all things Mac, and a 'Dummies' version within which new facilities can be accessed as skills increase...

Very frustrated!

It seems like the people who worked on this new update have never actually done word processing. Many of the features that I use on a weekly basis are gone. It makes no sense!

Hahaha this is just GARBAGE!
I'm laughing because this is so crazy that almost unreal.

What is this POS now?? Toddlers delight??
