on my macair, l have managed to change the colour to red,(command+T, then choose strike through icon and colour) but l want the strikethrough to be in bold or easily visible. current 'red' is too transparent. should be easy, and is super frustrating, as checked multiple sites on it , even the pages 'help' to no avail. please help.

I know of no such bold strikethrough font option in Pages. Depending on what type of project you're working on, you could try using an Apple Pencil or alternative in Pages on an iPad using the Markup option to create different weights for strikethrough, like this example I created. That line may be too wide for what you had in mind, but the width, color and marker type can be changed.

Alternatively, on your MBA you could use the line tool (in the Shapes menu) in Pages to manually create a heavier weight line to drop on top of text to make it look like strikethrough.

Here's an example of using the line tool in Pages on a Mac to effect a different style of strikethrough. The Arrange option is set to None so that it can be placed on top of the text. You can change the line style, color, weight, opacity and the other options you see on the right.
