Pages - how to highlight

In Word, highlighting a word is it easy and straightforward. But apparently there is no easy way in Pages. When I did I think shift+cmd+H it highlighted but when I looked at it in Word, it was a comment and not highlighted like I thought it would be. Any ideas?

Yea I found this but it as a comment so when you open in Word you don’t see yellow highlights.

As the support document states, add background color to the text you want to emphasize. That background text color should also show in Word.

Thanks. I guess it’s just too convoluted in Pages. Once you’re done that doesn’t stay open to select more text to highlight.
