Pages in macbook air

Went to copy and paste a document into a new page. Open new document in pages and selected a new blank.
Then selected the paste and the print had a box around it as if I had selected a text box but no selection any help Please.

Try not to yell at them? lol. Guess I'm screwed since I do a good portion (most) of the house work in my relationship. I'll pass that along to my wife so she doesn't yell at me as I get older.
