I've been playing around with Pages seeing what it can do and I quickly knocked together a very basic press-release type document. It has:
- a coloured rectangular 'shape' at the top with text inside the rectangle;
- two columns of justified text;
- two .jpg photographs within the text, with the text wrapping around the photos, and with shadows beneath the photos.

When I go to print it I get a print preview and it all looks fine, but when it prints the two photos get replaced by the rectangular 'shape' with the text inside it. Instead of having a box with text and two photos on the printed page I have three boxes with text, and no photos. The text boxes that replace the photos have also been scaled down to approximately the same size as the original photos. Also some of the text nearest the photos has been cropped slightly as though there is an invisible border around the photos. I can save it as a .pdf and then print it and I get the photos to print, but the text is still cropped, although it appears fine in the print preview.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

FWIW I'm printing from a 1.25 GHz eMac to a HP Deskjet 940c

It seems to be a known problem with some printers when drop shadows are used. There's a knowledge base article here which recommends saving as a PDF and printing from Preview. There's a related article here for problems printing Keynote docs to HP printers.

Just my luck...

Hmm, 3 years later, same problem...

Am I perhaps doing something wrong?

I'm using OS X Leopard 10.5.1 with Pages 3.0.1 ('08) and an HP OfficeJet Pro K550 (driver version 1.3.1) connected thru ethernet. Images with shadows, even text with shadows don't print at all.

I tried exporting as a PDF but the shadowed items still don't print.
