Okay, I've been trying to move from Word to Pages and had a few pain points around memory usage and some feature limitations. But I just 'upgraded' to the latest version, and the UI is a hot mess. Any tips on how I can de-uglify this?

Good God that's bad.
Install Pages 14.5 from the App Store. It was built with the Sequoia SDK and has a very nice UI.

Okay, so a litlte testing shows that it occurs with the toolbar set to icons only and the window width is below some arbitrary amount. If I switch to text and icons and then expand the window, it goes back to a solid, useable background.

I have both at the moment. I have been hoping that the new version will fix the memory leak (seemed to be tied to apple intelligence being on in my global settings by default). I'll do some testing when I don't have important files open.

(I waived the chance to hold off upgrading to macOS Tahoe and iOS 26. I'm glad I get something like one more shot.)
