I have a stereo pair of HomePods in my living room. When asking Siri a question it only plays out of 1 HomePod. It's the same one. Even if I'm closer to the other. Is this normal?

I agree it's odd, but normal.
Siri is already slow enough, having to add an audio buffer to sync her reply over 2 speakers would make her even slower.
Thank you. You'd think they could make it so it plays the one that you are closest to.
That would be a nice option, for her to reply from whichever HomePod heard the request more loudly/clearly.
