Rushed things? It was almost 4 years- YEARS- between :apple:TV3 and :apple:TV4.
That assumes that they started working on it as soon as the last version was released. They didn't. They've had their plate full with the new 5k iMac, MacBook, new keyboards, Magic Mouse, new Trackpad, new Macbook Pros, new 4K iMac, new iPad Pro, stylus (Pencil) and keyboard, iPhone, etc.... Whether it was rushed or not, let's just say that Apple didn't give the new Apple TV4 all the attention that they should have :apple:

I have to hope that a corporation the size of Apple with the abundant cash reserves so often slung around by us in praise of them could afford to allocate dedicated staff and resources to build more than one thing at a time. "Hands full" of other products shouldn't be the only hands available for this (and other) products. Apple has tens of thousands of employees; certainly there are enough hands around to assign multiples of hands to every single product in Apple's relatively small (tangible) project mix. Apple is not a tiny little company where the same 5 guys must do everything. We really need to stop thinking about Apple like they were in 1996 (on the brink and needing the remaining fanbase to rally) or 1977 when there really were relatively few hands to actually do everything.

Apparently, Steve Jobs "cracked it" (television) before he passed away. Conceptually, work on whatever that means began at least then to capitalize on that "cracked it" goodness. How long ago did Jobs say that? How much time between then and now? Is this "4" pretty representative of what we believe he meant by "cracked it"? Or do we need to look forward to the "5" to hopefully get to see the rest?

Plus your forgetting that this increased dependency on the remote means that if it's lost, you must absolutely buy a new remote or a spare.
At least you can get the old remote or use your TV remote or PS4 controller on Bravia for navigation and MFI controller in supported apps.

And if the rumors were true, they may have had different plans for the AppleTV that just didn't work out. (development hell in essence)

Bottom line Apple dropped the ball with Apple TV4

I have encoded my large collection of CD's into Apple lossless format, I've done this with hundreds of DVD's as well so that I have the convenience of accessing my library from my home theater. Apple TV2 has served me well with of course the drawbacks in sound and video. iTunes itself needs tweaks to improve how it can be your center piece for media streaming.

I had great hopes that Apple TV 4 would issue in some of the features I wanted. 1080p, 5.1 surround improvements in the search functions in iTunes and perhaps some innovative surprises that Apple would let loose on us. I didn't expect to dislike the remote as much as I did. I have to say dropping the REMOTE IOS app and the USB keyboard were probably the reason I disliked the remote. I cannot waste my time trying to interface with hundreds or thousands of files through my media server/Apple TV (Apple mac mini with TB's of data) with the Apple TV4 remote. Within minutes my thumb was feeling the strain and SIRI did little to find things on my hard drives but instead took me to iTunes Store to purchase the requested items that I all ready own and have stored on my HD's.

After a week, it went back to Apple.

I'm not waiting for them to fix it. I will repurchase it if they bring back support for a USB keyboard and IOS app integration; otherwise my money will go elsewhere.
