Pairing issue with newest Siri Remote and A1625 model

Had to replace one of my appletvs (1st gen 4k) and trying to use the remote on a A1625 model so I can get rid of the old black Siri Remote.

Tried the pairing process several times but the remote is just not being picked up by the device

Have you tried powering off your Apple TV completely for a bit then trying again?
