The M1 iMacs are colourful. The last iMacs to have colour were the original translucent iMac G3s.

Simple premise: has anyone tried pairing the original G3 iMac colourful keyboard and "puck" mouse with the current colourful M1 iMac?

This is an aesthetics question, not a question of whether it's possible. (All you'd need functionally is a USB to USB-C adapter.)

Looking at the M1 iMac colours compared to the originals, I'd imagine that the Grape keyboard and mouse would match Purple well. The Bondi Blue would also probably match with the Blue or Green quite nicely.

If anyone has an M1 and G3 iMac and can test these with photos, I would love to see the results!

I don't see why this should not work. The original iMac G3 came with a USB keyboard and USB mouse. The iMac M1 will work with every USB keyboard and every USB mouse. All you need are USB-A ports but there is no reason why the new iMac shouldn't support those peripherals.

Newer versions of macOS might not have the drivers necessary for certain functionality specific to those peripherals, but they should work as a "general" keyboard and mouse.
