Hey,

So I was busy on my iMac when a message popped up saying
'pairing request from Mike' I've never seen it before and I don't know anyone called 'Mike'. I closed the message but I just want to check its nothing to be worried about.

Thanks.

I'm guessing your bluetooth was left on, in discoverable mode, so someone nearby tried to pair their device with your mac (by accident?). Nothing to worry about.

... except that BT shouldn't be left on, in discoverable mode. The stack has had a few bugs over the years.

Yeah, I'd disable Discoverable mode to avoid issues in the future (though there's almost certainly nothing wrong right now). If you have the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar, just click on it and deselect the Discoverable option there. Otherwise, use System Preferences -> Bluetooth, and the same option.
