Today Palm announced a new version of their OS, called Web OS to accompany their newest phone, the Palm Pre. The Palm Pre has a full slide out keyboard with a gesture bar below the screen to provide useful gestures without having to touch the screen. It also has an inductive charger, so you don't have to plug it in for power.
While I would never ditch my iPhone, this is by far the best iPhone competitor I have seen so far. You can read more about it here.
