what software did you use to transfer your palm calendar/addresses to the iphone? i have an itouch and was reading that there are a lot of problems with missing sync.
I went into the Palm Desktop and did an export of the calendar and contacts. Then I went into iCal and Address Book and did an import. That transferred all of my info. Unfortunately, it didn't keep everything exactly the same (how could it really, when I had personalized my Palm fields?), but I could go into iCal and Address Book and clean some stuff up, which didn't take too long. I had to re-colorize my calendar stuff, which took the longest, but that's optional. The important thing is that everything made it over!

what are the other options like younotes? i am trying to figure out how to get memos on.
There are a BUNCH. iNote, MagicPad, Zenbe Lists, FireBox, ReQall, and on and on. Some are password-protected, some aren't, and some are accessible via the web, which means they store your info, not you. I'm not comfortable with that, especially when I'm not familiar with the company, but that's a personal choice.

A lot of people swear by Evernote, which is one that is web-accessible. The good thing about that is that you can get to it and the others via another computer, not just the iPhone. I'd like to find a notes/memos app that could sync with a desktop app, so that I could edit them on my iBook. So far that's not available, but I have hope. So far, my best bet is YouNote.

Another option is to e-mail them to yourself and then you can edit and keep it in drafts. That's a clumsy solution, but they kind of all are right now. :( I keep reminding myself it's been less than a month.

when you wrote:
Of course, Safari>Blazer, and Mail>Chatter or VersaMail."

what does that mean? is blazer an alternative to safari?
thks
Blazer is the crap web browser on my Treo. It sucked. I was just saying that Safari is light-years ahead of Blazer.

Importing Palm Handbase files to iTouch

I need some advice on how to transfer Handbase files created on a Palm PDA to a new iTouch. I have created several databases on the Palm and backed them up to my Mac. I would like to import the files to the iTouch.

Importing Palm Handbase files to iTouch

Looks like there's an FAQ here:
http://www.ddhsoftware.com/handbase_iPhone.html?plat=iPhone

You may have to export, then convert your DB to a CSV file.

.

Thanks for the help. I had been searching the DDH site and the Macrumors Forum all night and did not come up with anything that was satisfying. I have a database (.pdb) that I want to import backed up on the Mac. Using your information it looks as though I need to convert the database to a cvs file then try to import on to the iTouch. Yesterday, when I tried to import the database file (.pdb) directly to the iTouch using the url connection provided by the Handbase application on the iTouch, a failure to connect message was generated.
Thank you and best wishes,
CTMA

Sorry I did not see this until now. There is no need to convert your Palm HanDBase databases to install them on the iPhone HanDBase. The Desktop Connect feature supports installing the old ones directly to your iPhone. There is a box along the right to upload a CSV file AND to upload the PDB file, which is what you have already from your Palm days. Just use that upload and you should be just fine.

The only caveat is if you have a database older than v3 of HanDBase, ie, v2 or v1. Those won't install without first being updated. The process for updating involves running it on the windows desktop or a Palm or Windows Mobile PDA using v3 or v4 of HanDBase. Those programs know how to update older formats to the latest version. If you don't have access to anything like that, feel free to contact DDH Software support via our web page and we'll help and convert them for you if needed.

Hope this helps and hope you enjoy the program!

I have been using a palm for years just somd my tx for 150.00 on ebay.
anyway some of the things missing on the iphone are easy alarms. I could use bug me for a fast drawn reminder and set and alarm for it.
so easy alarms that run in the background. same with other apps that will run in the background.
easy synchronizing. apps install their sync info in hot sync and you don't have to open a app and use a wireless connection to sync the app. everything is synced Plus your not limited to MS software.
